Flat Track Racing Motorcycles
Maulden Motorcycle Repair build race motorcycles for Flat Track racing. We will prepare any aspect of your Flat Track race bike, from DTX based ShortTrackers to framers or ROTAX and road based ThunderBikes.
Chief technician Steve Hazell rides a highly modified Harley-Davidson 883 Sportster in the ShortTrack UK Series. Race bikes under development include a modified BUELL Firebolt to race in the Short Track class and a modified Harley-Davidson MT500 ROTAX to race in the ThunderBike class. We also plan to run the BUELL at some of the longer 1Km tracks in the European Flat Track racing series.
We are happy to advise on any aspect of Flat Track motorcycle preparation for racing or for the Street Tracker look on the road, call 07906 385484 or send Steve an email.
Modified Harley-Davidson 883 Sportster
Steve's Sportster started off as a standard Harley-Davidson 883 Sportster.
It has undergone several modifications to give it the performance and handling needed for flat track racing:
- Heads replaced with 1200 Sportster heads
- Chain drive conversion from standard belt
- XR750 handlebars
- Tank and body kit
- 19 inch wheels
You can see more pictures on the Redmax Speedshop Flickr page.
Modified BUELL Firebolt
The BUELL framer is under development and will be ready to race in the 2011 series.
The build list so far:
- Track Master Frame
- BUELL Firebolt donor bike
- 19 inch rear wheel
- Custom made oil tank
- Seat unit from RedMax Speedshop

Modified Harley-Davidson MT500 ROTAX
Steve recently rescued an unloved and abandoned MT500 from the Welsh hills. Although this bike has most likely gone past the point of return for a road going MOT'd motorcycle it is an ideal starting point for a ThunderBike project.
Thus far it has been dismantled and the engine has had a basic health check. The forks have been shortened and stiffened. As the project progresses we will post updates and pictures here.
This will hopefully give anyone interested in building their own ThunderBike an insight into what is involved in the process.
